Zelda C. Price

Zelda C. Price (nee Adams) of Orland Park, passed peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. Zelda was born May 4, 1937 in Bogalusa, Louisiana, to James and Irma Adams. As a child, along with her seven brothers and sisters, Zelda helped out at the family general store. She was an exceptional athlete with a particular love of basketball – a sport she would play on the Army women’s team.
It was while serving our country in the Army that she met the man who would become her husband, James Price. They were married on January 2, 1957, and for the next 58 years they lived in South Holland and then Orland Park.
Zelda and Jim raised their four children in South Holland. Zelda worked as a teacher aide with Madison Elementary and Thornwood High School in South Holland. She was also very active at First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and served as an Awana leader.
Zelda is survived by her husband, James Price, her children, Elaine (Howard) Volz, Julie Price, and Barry (Eva) Price. She is a dear sister to Bill (Sharon) Adams, Gay Havard and Sharon (Bomer) Smith and fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Beloved Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Zelda left fond memories and loving advice to six grandchildren, Christina (Thure) Johnson, Courtney (Keith) Hodgson, Caitlin Volz, Devin Price, Samantha Price, Alex Jacob, and great-grandchildren Carly, Shane, Bennett, Carter and Deacon.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Irma, her daughter, Laura, siblings Margaret, Linda, James and Johnny, and great-granddaughter Addy.
Visitation will be on Saturday, October 24, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm, followed by a Memorial Service from 3:30pm to 5:00pm, at Vandenberg Funeral Home Tinley Park, 17248 S. Harlem Avenue, Tinley Park, IL 60477. Interment will be private.
