Violet Weitendorf nee Hurley 87 passed away peacefully at her home on Friday May 1, 2015 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Beloved mother and best friend of daughter, Jill Weitendorf. Survived by her special niece Helen Simpkins and numerous nieces and nephews and her faithful companion her dog Kali. Loving wife of the late Marvin of 60 years. Preceded in death by her parents Gilbert and Carrie nee Cappel Hurley. Her brothers Arthur and Jack Hurley, brother in law Fred Weitendorf, sister in law Lois (Lewis) Ebert. Violet was a life long Mokena resident who graduated from Joliet Central High School in 1945. She worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 11 ½ years. Retired in 1989 from the Mokena Public School District after 24 years of service as a school secretary at Carpenter Street School, Willowcrest School and Mokena Junior High. She loved all the students and teachers she worked with over these 24 years. She was a life long member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, a former Sunday School teacher and member of Women’s fellowship. Violet also enjoyed spending time in Bonita Springs, FL with her family. Funeral Service Monday May 4, 2015 Lying in State 10:00 AM until time of service 11:00 AM at St. John’s United Church of Christ 11100 Second Street Mokena, IL. Interment in St. John’s Cemetery.
