Robert M. Karpola, age 85, late of Mokena, IL formally of Chicago, IL passed away peacefully January 27, 2021. Robert was born in Chicago, IL to the late Andrew and Mary (Bolsega) Karpola. Beloved husband for 62 years of Phyllis (nee Toppett); loving and devoted father of Cheryl Edwards, Bruce, Keith (Ann), and Gayle (Edward) Melby. Cherished grandfather of Mike, Steve, and Brian (Ashley) Edwards, Celia Deckelman, Claire Melby, and Zachary Snyder. Great-grandfather of Faith Sears, and Bella Edwards. Caring brother of the late Richard Karpola. Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Robert was a graduate of Gage Park High School and retired after 40 years of service from Certified Grocers in Hodgkins, IL. He served in the Army National Guard from 1952-1953 and the U.S. Navy from 1953-1961. Robert was a member of the American Legion Post 2000 of Frankfort and Mokena. He was known for his gentle soul, hilarious one-liners and love of sweets. Visitation Monday, February 1, 2021, 3:00-8:00 PM. Funeral service will be private at Vandenberg Funeral Home 19604 Wolf Road Mokena, IL 60448. Robert will be escorted to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery by the patriot guard for a private interment.
