Robert Martin Clancy, 93, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 6, 2019. He was born in 1925, the son of James A. and Mary E. (nee Rondeau) Clancy, and younger brother of James (Laurie) Clancy and Florence (Bill) Elliott, all of whom now greet him in eternity. He was a veteran of WWII, having enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, just days prior to his 18th birthday. Following his service, he returned to Chicago where he married his beloved wife Margaret “Marge” (nee McAllister), had a beautiful 51 year marriage until her passing in 2006, and rejoins her now. Together they raised their loving family of six children; Robert M. Clancy, Jr, Maureen A. Clancy, Joseph P. Clancy, Eileen M. Clancy, Brian T. (Kathleen Burns) Clancy and Kevin J. (Xavier Cruz) Clancy. Robert was always especially proud of his twelve grandchildren; Dave (Erica) Steinberger, Lauren (Matthew) Edwards, Abigail (Aaron Wendland) Steinberger, Mary Clancy, Brianna Clancy, Sean Clancy, Megan Clancy, Shannon Clancy, Patrick Clancy, Martin Clancy, Colleen Clancy, and Timothy Clancy, as well as his three great-grandchildren, Emma and Brandon Steinberger and Jonathan “Jack” Edwards.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019, from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 17248 S. Harlem Ave., Tinley Park, IL.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, January 11, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church, 6707 W. 175th St., Tinley Park, IL.
Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Orland Park, IL.
