Deacon Paul M. Gilbert, 88, late of Tinley Park, IL. US Navy WWII Veteran, serving on the USS Smalley in the Aleutian Islands. Beloved husband of the late Lucille Gilbert nee Traster for 60 years. Loving father of Steven (Julie), Daniel, John (Toni), Mary Lu (Mel) Lee, David (Jan), Kathy, the late Kenny (Debbie), Martha, and Christine Austin. Proud and caring grandfather of 22 and great grandfather of 19. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. Visitation Sunday June 02, 2013, at the Vandenberg Funeral Home 17248 S. Harlem Ave. Tinley Park, IL. from 2:00-8:00 PM. Lying in State Monday June 03, 2013 at St. George Church, 9:30 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Paul has been a member of St. George Church since 1959, becoming an Ordained permanent Deacon in the Archdiocese of Chicago in 1992. Deacon Paul led the Holy Hour Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for 15 years, was instrumental in the development of the Holy Family Adoration Chapel, and the Devine Mercy Sunday Celebration at St. George Parish. Deacon Paul was a devoted member of the Infant Jesus of Prague Prayer Group. Paul was an active Pro-Life Advocate and contributed too many charities for those in need. Paul was employed as a Railroad Engineer with the Pennsylvania/Penn Central Railroads, and retired from Conrail after 45 years of Railroad service. Paul moved his family to Tinley Park in 1959, where he provided for his family by working a small farm and raising organic fruits and vegetables. He was affectionately known as the “Egg Man” and generously shared his abundant harvest with family and friends. His anointed prayers and beautiful singing voice will be missed by all………..
