Maria G.“Nana” Mercado, 83 of Chicago, IL., Born and raised from Brownsville, Texas, passed away Monday, May 27th, 2024. She is survived by her four sons Leo, Jr. Mercado of Chicago,IL, Ernie Mercado, of Burbank, IL, Rey (Deb) Mercado of Burbank, IL, Paul (Betty) Mercado of Freeport, IL and her granddaughter Amanda (Raul) Lara Mercado of Chicago, IL. She is survived by her siblings (two sisters & one brother), Maria Elena Martinez, of Chicago, IL, Margarito Cardenas of Chicago, IL, and Guadalupe Manso, of Bronx, New York, and God Son Fred Rangel of Chicago, IL. and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Leopoldo C. Mercado, Lucy Martinez (Mother), Jose Humada (Father), Pablo & Julia Sosa (Parents).
Maria G. Mercado was born in Brownsville, Texas, On January 14th 1941. It was in Brownsville, Texas where she met her beloved husband Leopoldo. After they married, they moved to Chicago IL. They lived in Chicago for many years and had for children. Maria retired from Little Company of Mary Hospital as a CNA. She also worked at Hurley Elementary School. She loved her job as much as her family. She was a hard working women and loving wife. She enjoyed doing crafts, ceramics, word search puzzles. Her favorite color was purple. She also enjoyed gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Amanda. She was the most amazing grandma anyone could have. Who was very fortunate to raise her only granddaughter Amanda. She loved Spending time and playing games with the little ones Kruz and Isaiah. She loved drinking her Tecate, and always enjoyed her Chicago style Hot dog with a nice cold Coke. Especially from “Windy City Hotdogs”. Her cooking surly will be missed. She will live on in our hearts and her love will forever shine bright with in us, serving as a source of strength when we are in need. You left your mark on this world and life will never be the same. We love you, “Nana.” You will be truly missed!
Visitations for Maria G. Mercado will be held at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 17248 Harlem Ave, Tinley Park, IL, on June 4th, 2024, from 3pm-8pm. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on June 5th, 2024 at Vandenberg Funeral Home. Interment to follow at St. Casimir Cemetery in Chicago
