Maria Becker

March 12, 1925 — October 29, 2023

Maria Becker, nee Hӧgl, 98, of Tinley Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 29, 2023. Her beloved husband, Mathias was by her side, where he has always been since 1951 when they first met in Germany, and through their 68 years of marriage.
Maria was the third of eight children born and raised on a small farm in Langenamming, Germany, to Michael and Franziska (Wӓltl) Hӧgl, where she lived a life full of hard work, simple pleasures, and deep faith. Her favorite family chores included feeding cows, churning butter, plowing fields with her dad and knitting blankets, hats, mittens and ‘strümpfe’ (aka, stockings). Her favorite day was Sunday when her family and all their neighbors attended Mass. For over 98 years, she never stopped wanting to ‘in die Kirche gehen’ (go to church). No wonder the good Lord brought her home on a Sunday!
On April 14, 1955, she married Mathias Becker and began her journey to a new country with him. After they settled in Tinley Park, she devoted her life to raising her five children, spoiling her grand and great-grandchildren, tending her geraniums, baking her now famous chocolate chip cookies, and probably breaking church attendance records at St. George, where she once again found great joy.
Along with her husband, Maria is survived by her children John (Sue) Becker, Maria (Eugene) Tashjian, Cathy Becker, Matt Becker, and Joe Becker.
Cherished grandmother of Eric (Caitlin Condon) Becker, Andy Becker, Emily Tashjian, NolanTashjian, and Monica (Steve) Madura.
Totally adored great-grandmother of Bailey and Chloe Madura.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Fanni (Michael) Thalmeier and her brothers Michel (Resi) Hӧgl, Hans (Doris) Hӧgl, Sepp (Maria) Hӧgl and Tony (Resi) Hӧgl. She is survived by her younger sister Leni (Hans) Huber and brother Alois (Irma) Hӧgl, and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws in her homeland.
Special thanks to Melody, Elizabeth, Kathy, Andrea, and all the caregivers from BrightStar as well as Justin and the hospice staff from Angel’s Grace. You are truly amazing people, who went above and beyond to comfort Maria during her last difficult years by learning to sing her favorite songs and praying the Rosary with her - in German! You are Wunderbar!
