Sr. M. Eleanor Carella

Sister M. Eleanor Carella, M.S.M. (Domenica aka Mannie) Sister M. Eleanor M.S.M. was a member of the Mantellate Sisters Servants of Mary for 70 years. Sister Eleanor (Domenica also known as Mannie) Carella age 93 died May 2, 2021 at Marian Lake Convent in Plainfield.
Sister Eleanor was a teacher and Principal for many years.
She was principal of St. George School, Tinley Park, Seven Holy Founders School, Calumet City and St. Bridget’s School, Hobart, IN.
As a member of the Mantellate Sisters, Sister Eleanor served in various administration positions and became the first Provincial of the newly formed American Province. After her years as provincial, she volunteered to go to our mission in Swaziland, South Africa.
Sister Eleanor will be missed by her Community of Mantellate Sisters at Marian Lake in Plainfield, her sisters Theresa Russo and Josephine (Peter) DeSantis and many nieces and nephews, friends and alumni. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rocco & Vittoria (Mastronardo) Carella, her sisters, Madeline (Michael) Abbinante, Grace (Nick) Navarra, Antionette (Carmine) Basile and Frances (Clyde) Kowalski-Wright, and her devoted caregiver Agnes.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the Mantellate Sisters would be appreciated.
Visitation Wednesday, May 5, 2021, 4:00-8:00 PM at the Vandenberg Funeral Home, 17248 Harlem Avenue Tinley Park, IL. 60477. Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, May 6, 2021, 10:00 AM at St. George Catholic Church. Interment to follow in St. Benedict Cemetery, Crestwood, IL.

Visitation will be limited to less than (50) attendees in the funeral facilities at any given time and social distancing will be required.
