Laverne Jeanette Martin

LaVerne Martin, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, joining her beloved husband, Donald Martin, in Heaven. Donald passed away on March 16, 2020, after 57 wonderful years of marriage.
LaVerne was born on November 2, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, to Fred and Florence Wagner. She earned a master's degree and dedicated her career to teaching in the Chicago Public Schools, where she was known for her patience, dedication, and love for her students.
LaVerne and Donald cherished their time together, often enjoying meals at local restaurants-partly for the food, but mostly to avoid cooking. They had a love for travel, celebrating their anniversaries with memorable trips, including Alaskan cruises and Hawaiian getaways. They also enjoyed walking local trails, but the greatest joy in their lives came when they became grandparents to Matthew. They wholeheartedly embraced their role as grandparents, sharing their world with him and eagerly stepping into his-whether it was riding roller coasters, visiting museums, or exploring local attractions.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, LaVerne was known for always putting family first. She had an open-door policy, and her home was a welcoming place for family and friends alike.
LaVerne is survived by her loving children, Christine (Gerard) Fritsch and John (Julie Siwinski) Martin; her beloved grandson, Matthew Fritsch; and many other family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory. She is reunited in Heaven with her husband, Donald Martin, her parents, Fred and Florence Wagner, and her brother, Robert Wagner.
Visitation will be on Saturday April 12, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Vandenberg Funeral Home 17248 Harlem Avenue Tinley Park Il 60477 until a service at 4:00 PM for LaVerne and Donald Martin.
