James " Jim " H. Katzmann

December 4, 1948 — April 28, 2021

James “Jim” H. Katzmann, age 72, late of Mokena, IL, passed away peacefully April 28, 2021. Beloved son to the late Helen Kuehne and Arthur Katzman II. Caring brother to Arthur III, Richard, and Anne Schlott. Devoted husband to Deanne Katzmann nee Booth. Loving father of Sarah Gross, Kristy, and Kelly. Proud grandfather to Noah and Jacob Cutright, Ella Gross, Helena and Estelle Calvillo. Proud Uncle and Great Uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In his youth, friends and neighbors nicknamed him after the energizer bunny. Jim attended Oak Lawn High School, graduating class of 1967. He then became a star athlete, lettering in football and track at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska from 1967 until he graduated in 1971. He carried his love for sports throughout his lifetime; eagerly attending every youth sports game of his children, grandchildren, and great nieces and nephews, becoming a White Sox Fan extraordinaire, and lover of college football. Loved ones can describe Jim as a giver; always putting everyone else first and willing to lend a hand, even if he didn’t agree or understand. A caring and compassionate neighbor, Jim was active in the neighborhood assisting everyone- whether it be shoveling driveways, cutting down trees, or leaving ice cold water for the mailman or bus driver. Family members can recall numerous memories and characteristics that made him a “#1 Grandpa”, he was a dedicated and loving grandfather, his grandchildren were the center of his world and he always put them first- they brought him such joy and happiness. His infectious smile and generous nature will be dearly missed, as he spread unconditional love to everyone he knew. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to N.A.W.S. Mokena ( https://www.nawsus.org/donate ).
