Ida Spinazzola

Ida Spinazzola, “ Grandma Ida” to many and all, age 100, late of Tinley Park, Illinois, passed away at home on May 31, 2021. She was born in Ripacandida, Italy, and arrived age 8 at Ellis Island. A long time Blue Island resident, Ida was a successful businesswoman who worked 40 years for Montgomery Ward and after retirement began her second career managing her apartment buildings and encouraging her grandchildren. She loved cooking meatballs and lasagna for family and friends, tending her roses, and listening to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren sing. In her later years, her favorite way to end a visit or a phone call was to sing “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck...Boop! Boop!”
Ida was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfred; her cherished parents, Mike and Antonia Sinise; and dear sisters, Marietta Spinazzola, Yolanda and Carmella Sinise. She is survived by her children Betty Jayne McGary (Dan), Michael (Betty), Robert (Colleen), 5 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Sunday, June 6 from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 17248 Harlem Avenue, Tinley Park, IL. Funeral mass is 10:00 AM on Monday, June 7 at St. Donatus Church, 1939 Union St., Blue Island, IL. Interment immediately following at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL.
