Helen Van Luik, Grammy, 88, died after a very brave fight with cancer on January 12, 2016. She was born and grew up on the Southeast side of Chicago where she raised her three daughters Nora, Janice and Nancy with the love of her life, husband, Robert Van Luik until 1995 when she and her husband moved to Tinley Park, IL. It was love at first sight for Robert the first day of their sophomore year at St. Francis de Sales High School when Helen walked in the room. It took him a year to initiate conversation, but their love story lasted for 69 years of marriage. Helen was active in the East Side Lions Club and served as Officer and President of the Lady Lions, where she had many dear friends. Helen and Robert spent many happy summers with family at their home on Clear Lake in Michigan, and winters in Sarasota, Florida. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Frank Vrlich, nephew Stephen Vrlich, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Virginia and Robert Lindsey. She is survived by her husband Robert, daughters Nora (Daniel) Fling, Janice (Michael) White, and Nancy Van Luik, nephew Frank (Tracie) Vrlich (who was like a son), beloved grandchildren Kimberly (Chip) Kahsen, Mark White, Kira Fling, and great-grand children Gwendolyn and Lucas Kahsen, and nephews Gregory, Mark, Jeffery, and Craig Lindsey and their families.
