Jerry (Gerald) G Poncin passed away at Silver Cross Hospital on October 6, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 29, 1942 the son of Bernhard and Irene Poncin. Jerry is survived by his loving wife Julianne and his children Brian (Sue) Poncin, Gerald (Jen) Poncin, Niomai Swank, Dawn (Andy) Kuizin, Dana (Glen) Willmeng and brother Rich Poncin. He is preceded in death by his parents, and son Ryan Swank. Jerry is survived by 11 Grandchildren; Kira, Kyle, Caroline, Elizabeth, and Eleanor Poncin; Locklyn and Cecil Willmeng; AJ Kuizin; Hailey and Gavin Swank; and Mikayla Swank.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was an active member, and former officer of the Tinley Park American Legion Post 615. He graduated as the fastest man in the first class of Brother Rice High School in 1960 and played on the first ever Brother Rice Baseball and Football teams.
Jerry was a working man; and, as member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 134 and the Oracle Social Club, he was a champion for organized labor, and the plight of the worker was a cause to which he dedicated a huge portion of his life.
Jerry had a full life; he loved his kids, the White Sox, Bears and his many Oldsmobiles.
Jerry was a stranger to no one, friend to all.
Visitation will be held Thursday October 10 from 2-8 p.m. at Vandenberg Funeral Home 17248 S. Harlem Ave. Tinley Park, IL. Funeral services will also be conducted Thursday October 10, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. at Vandenberg Funeral Home. Burial will be held Friday October 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
