In Loving Memory of Frank Urbanski

April 19, 1936 - April 23, 2025

Frank Urbanski, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 19, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to Matilda and James Urbanski, Frank grew up with a strong sense of family, service, and community-values that would guide him throughout his life.

Frank proudly served his country as a member of the 8th Engineering Battalion in the United States Army, enlisting on August 25, 1959. Frank was deployed to Korea during wartime. His dedication to duty was only rivaled by his devotion to family and his passion for life.

It was at a polka dance where fate stepped in and introduced him to the love of his life, Bernadette Biel. The two shared a love for dancing that never faded. Married in 1963, Frank and Bernie enjoyed over 62 beautiful years together, never missing an opportunity to twirl across the dance floor. As devoted members of the Polka USA Club, their joy was infectious, and their partnership, inspiring.

Together, they raised three children-Steven, Phyllis, and Christine-first in Chicago and later in Oak Forest, where they moved in 1999. Frank worked as a mechanic for Corn Products for over 44 years, where his hardworking spirit and good humor forged lifelong friendships. Long after retirement, he and his former coworkers continued to gather for breakfast, keeping the camaraderie alive.

Frank was a devoted Scout Master, active on committees and always willing to lend a helping hand. He passed on his love of sailing and fishing to his children, creating cherished memories on the water.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Larry (Mary), James (Ruth), and Philip (Vicki); brother-in-law Robert Dondzik; and sister-in-law Geri Biel.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Bernie; his children Steven (Bridget) Urbanski, Phyllis Ventre, and Christine Urbanski; his grandchildren Annmarie Urbanski, Dana Ventre, and Elizabeth Urbanski; and his great-granddaughter, Hannah. He is also remembered with love by his sister-in-law Joann Dondzik and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Frank will be remembered for his warm heart, steady hands, deep laughter, and the way he made everyone feel like part of the family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and joyful living.

Visitation will be held at Vandenberg Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM.

Prayers at the funeral home will begin at 9:15 AM on Wednesday, April 30, followed by a 10:00 AM Mass at St. George Church, 6707 W. 175th Street, Tinley Park, IL 60477.
