Frank P. Edgeworth succumbed to a long battle with cancer on November 2nd, surrounded peacefully by his beloved wife and family. He was cherished by everyone he met, embodying the spirit of a man for others. The entire South Side of Chicago has lost a dear friend and an extraordinary man.
Frank was married to the love of his life, Denise (nee Katula), for 45 wonderful years. Together, they raised three children: Joseph (Maureen), Frank A. (Sarah), and Margaret (Tony) Serio. Frank took immense pride in being a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren: Nolan, Jack, Hailey, Charles, Nora, Claire, Laurel, and James. He was also a special uncle to Karen (Joe) Montagano, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Born to Frank J. and Mary T. Edgeworth, Frank was a devoted older brother to William (Eva) and sisters Ann Mattes (deceased), Mary (Henry) Gamboa, and Elizabeth (John) Arvizu. He was a fond brother-in-law to Elaine Albrecht, Richard Katula (the late Pat), the late Jim (the late Dale), Marie Katula (the late David), and the late Loretta (the late William) Toschi. His love for family shone brightly, and he was their number one fan at games and events.
A hard-working man, Frank dedicated 39 years as a Letter Carrier, building lasting relationships with his customers, who often called him family. To his own family, he was a hero. Frank was selfless, always making time to check in on others. His legacy will endure as a testament to his diligent nature and his commitment to doing the small things right. Frank was truly an ironman.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Neerukonda and the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Chicago for their compassionate care over the past four and a half years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Christmas Without Cancer via
