Emil J. Flerick, age 97, proud WWII Navy Veteran, passed away Sunday May 01, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Armella Flerick, Loving father of Paul (Theresa) Flerick, and the late Ken Flerick. Cherished grandfather of Nicole Flerick, Andria (Carl) Corlew, Diana (Dan) Klecan, Michael Flerick, Steven Flerick, Jackie (Kyle) Carmody, Laura Flerick, and Great Grandfather of 10. Caring brother of Bertha Von Buettner, and brother in-law of Pearl and the late Bob Madlener. Proud uncle of Jim (Tina) Madlener and dearest godfather of Mary (Verschelde) Mayer. Uncle and Great Uncle to many.
Emil graduated from St. Rita high school in 1943, was an All Catholic league guard on the basketball team and played at DePaul University under legendary coach Ray Meyer. He later joined the Navy and played basketball for the Navy.
He worked for 35 years at First Chicago Corporation, where he retired as an Assistant Vice President. He played many years of professional 16” softball and was inducted into the 16” Hall of Fame in 2004.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Monday, May, 09, 2022 at St. Alexander Church, 7025 W. 126th St, Palos Heights, IL. Interment at a later date in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
