Elizabeth Anne Byrnes

April 6, 1955 — May 6, 2024

Elizabeth Byrnes, 69, of Tinley Park died peacefully on May 6, 2024, following a brief cancer battle.

Liz was born to Gustave and Mary Rita Hinueber on April 6, 1955, in Blue Island. She was raised in Rock Falls, where she was a proud Newman Central Catholic High School alumni before attending Blackburn College. It was at Blackburn that she would meet her husband William. They wed August 14th, 1976, at St. Andrew's Church in Rock Falls, and settled into the south suburbs of Chicago to raise their daughters.

Liz began her career at Mayer, Brown & Platt law firm in Chicago. After taking time to raise her daughters, she embarked on a second career as a paraeducator in special education in Kirby School District 140. Following her retirement, she spent time enjoying more of her favorite activities including a good road trip, summer days spent at the local pool perfecting her tan and other various gatherings with her many, many friends. In her final years, her greatest joy was becoming "Nana" to her first grandchild. She will be fondly remembered as a woman who always showed up for others, and who always made sure to find the fun in life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Mark Hinueber. She will be greatly missed by her husband William; two daughters Erin of Tinley Park and Shannon (Anthony) Kijak of Omro, WI; brothers: Matthew (Lori) Hinueber of Grand Rapids, MI, Peter (Carrie) Hinueber of Carrollton, TX; sister: Margaret (Bruce) Dicks of Nashville, TN; many nieces and nephews, and granddaughter Emery Kijak.

Arrangements by Vandenberg Funeral Home. A gathering of friends and family will take place Thursday May 16th from 3-8pm at Vandenberg Funeral Home in Tinley Park. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday May 17th at 10am at St. George Catholic Church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Parents & Friends of the Ludeman Center, or Newman Central Catholic High School (Sterling) in her honor.
