Doris M. Sangmeister

Doris Sangmeister (nee Hinspeter), of Mokena, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 following a brief illness. Doris was born April 6, 1928. Doris was the wife of the late Congressman George E. Sangmeister.
Loving wife and mother, Doris is survived by her children and grandchildren. Kurt (Gina) Sangmeister of Venice Beach, Florida, Kim (Chris) Puckett of Morris; grandchildren, Jordan Sangmeister, Cole Puckett, Keegan Puckett and Kenzie Puckett.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Anna Hinspeter, her brother, Don Hinspeter and sister in law, Mary Lou Hinspeter, two nephews, Paul Hinspeter and Ronald Hinspeter and her loving husband of 56 years, George E. Sangmeister.

Born and raised in Frankfort, she moved to Mokena when she married George in 1951. Doris was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Mokena. Doris was a member of Prestwick Country Club and enjoyed spending winter months in Florida. Together with George, they enjoyed travel, golf, friends and much community service.

A celebration of Doris’ life will be held at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Mokena. Wake is 9:00am - 11:00am, funeral at 11:00 and interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery immediately following. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Vandenberg Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations could be sent in Doris’ name to Silver Cross Hospital Foundation or to St. John’s United Church of Christ in Mokena.
