Dennis B. Branson (86) went home to rest in the arms of Jesus on Sunday, August 11 while surrounded by his wife and family.
Dennis was born on January 14, 1933, the second child of Floyd and Betty (Korodi) Branson in Chicago, Illinois. He married E. Marilyn Penrod on Jan. 31, 1950.
Dennis served in the United States Army 2 years. After he returned home he returned to his job at the Mount Greenwood Hardware store and finally joined the Chicago Fire Department in 1969 where he served for 20 years until his retirement in 1989.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn of 66 years and 2 children, Dean (Cindy) Branson of Frankfort, Illinois and Cheri (Tim) Carter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Dennis’ greatest love was Jesus Christ, always striving to live a life that would be pleasing to God. His commitment to Christ and the church was evident to anyone who knew him. Dennis enjoyed many side jobs during his life which included a ceramic business and selling at the Flea Markets. He also championed a compassionate heart that God could use when it was time to help others out.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 15 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Vandenberg Funeral Home at 17248 Harlem Ave., Tinley Park, IL. Lying in State 9:00-10:00 AM Friday. Rev. Ryan Kuehl and Rev. Tim Carter will officiate the funeral service being held on Friday, August 16 at 10:00 AM at Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 5536 131st Street, Crestwood, IL.
