Charlene Szumilas

Charlene Szumilas April 13, 1952 – January 13, 2015 was a resident of Mokena, IL. After a courageous 4-year battle with ovarian cancer, she passed away peacefully at her home with loved ones at her side.
Char was the beloved daughter of Evelyn (Greniewicki) Szumilas and the late Thaddeus. She will be forever missed by her sister Michaelene “Micki” (Fred) Novak and best friend and roommate Candy Gouwens. Loving Aunt of Jennifer (Darron) Williams, Kristin Covert, and Great Aunt of Jacob, Evelyn, Lauren, Elisha and Makenna.
She dedicated a portion of her career to coaching various sports and was honored to be inducted into the GCAC Hall of Fame. Her 30-plus years spent as an educator and administrator were devoted to inspiring the hearts and minds of the students attending the schools she served. Her kind and loving heart will long be remembered by family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 3:00-9:00 pm at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 19604 S. Wolf Road, Mokena, IL. Early viewing Saturday, January 17 beginning at 8:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 19515 115th Ave.
