Carl R. Vandenberg late of Tinley Park, IL. formerly of Blue Island, IL. Korean War Army Graves Registration Veteran. Beloved husband of the late Jean Vandenberg nee Hickey. Loving father of Carl (Deborah), Kirk (Ray Jaskot), Mark (Rhonda), Gary (Bobbie Halminiak), Scot (Patricia). Proud and caring papa of Christopher, Anne-Marie, Jacob (Carrie), Joshua, Brianne, Trace, Carly, Kayla, and Trevor. Cherished great grandpa of Oliver. Dear brother of Vivian (late Donald) Fletcher. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Funeral Friday, February 21, 2014 11:30 AM at St. George Church. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Visitation Thursday 3:00-9:00 PM. Carl was the founder & owner of Vandenberg Funeral Homes involved in the Tinley Park Lions Club, Fr. C.C.Boyle Knights of Columbus Council 4698, former St. Francis Hospital Advisory Board Member, and many organizations throughout the south suburbs of Chicago. Carl enjoyed his summers in Sister Lakes Michigan and his winters holding court at the Chickee bar in Naples, FL. Papa Carl was the “World’s Biggest Fan” of his grandchildren; with a Tab, a cigar and his mobile office, he never missed an event. He truly was an inspiration and role model, he will be forever missed.
