Dr. Arthur Adelbert Wagner Jr. at age 96, a longtime resident of Tinley Park, then Frankfort, Illinois passed away on June 1, 2022 of natural causes.
Art is survived by his loving family, son Arthur (Kimberly) Wagner, stepdaughters Ardis Stewart and Audrey (Mark) Luecke, grandchildren Alexander Wagner, Carl Wagner, Melinda (Tanner) Rutkowski, Amelia Luecke, and Cole (Gloria) Luecke, nephew George (Julie) Wagner, niece Jamie (Andrew) Knowles and extended family.
Arthur was preceded in death by his wife Mary F. Wagner, wife Joan W. Wagner, brother George (Rita) Wagner, and stepson Russell Stewart.
Art was a World War II veteran. He earned a B.S. & Masters in Microbiology (Michigan) and PhD in Education (Northern Illinois University). He taught biology at Joliet Junior College and served as Chair of the Biology Department for many years. Dedicated to his faith, he served as Congregational President at Zion Lutheran Church. He served Tinley Park as member and chair of the Sister City Commission and was awarded a Key to the City for his efforts. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and black powder enthusiast with an abiding love of the old west, especially Native American history and culture. He spent many happy days traveling across the United States and Europe with his family and friends.
Family will receive friends at Zion Lutheran Church, 17100 69th Ave, Tinley Park, IL 60477, on Saturday June 11, 2022, from 10 to 11 AM with funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Zion Lutheran Church in Tinley Park or the Foundation Scholarships at Joliet Junior College are welcomed. Funeral arrangements to be handled by Vandenberg Funeral Home in Tinley Park, IL.
