Arline Mae Voss, late of New Lenox, IL, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2023 while at Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Joliet, IL.
Arline was born on February 14, 1930 in Blue Island, IL, and married Henry Voss on November 6, 1955. She was preceded in death by her parents Eugene (1977) and Elsa (1982) Schwachtgen and her husband Henry (2001).
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Marianne) of Frankfort, IL, and daughter, Lisa (Derek) Potts of Springfield, IL; 2 grandchildren, Madeline (Alex) Gorsuch and Anna Voss; 2 siblings, Leanne (Richard) Lysholm, Neal (Judy) Schwachtgen; as well as 6 nieces and their families.
After graduating from Blue Island Community High School in 1948, Arline proudly served the US Navy Reserves as a journalist, she also attended the Art Institute of Chicago's Art School. After she was married, she was an active member of the Blue Island Jaycees and Christ Memorial United Church of Christ in Blue Island, and then a faithful and active member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Mokena.
Arline had many different occupations, including a fashion model during her teen years, and then as an administrative assistant for a hospital and various physicians. The most important work she did was being a faithful spouse, a loving Mom to her children, a devoted Grandma to her grandchildren and a caring Sister to her siblings, and Aunt to their families.
She found great pleasure with her hobbies; painting, drawing, scrapbooking, calligraphy, journaling and collecting dolls, but was most passionate about serving as the head of the children's Sunday school, attending and leading adult bible study classes at church, serving meals at a homeless shelter in Joliet, and ushering at various local community concerts, plays and musicals.
Throughout her life, Arline enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Her favorite trips were to Germany, Ireland, Alaska, Florida, South Carolina and Wisconsin. Whenever possible, she enjoyed visiting with family and friends, talking and sharing meals. She enjoyed listening to classical music, attending gospel music concerts, learning at a deeper level about her Christian faith, watching her daughter's marching band events, her granddaughters' tennis matches and band concerts, and rooting for the Chicago Cubs.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2023, 3:00-7:00 PM at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 19604 Wolf Road, Mokena, IL. 60448. Lying in State will commence Thursday 10:00 AM until time of Service 11:00 AM at St. John's United Church of Christ 11100 Second Street, Mokena, IL. Rev. Rocky Sheneman officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Mokena.
