Alma Hanna Marie Lauffer, was born in Tinley Park, IL, March 4, 1918, and went to be with the Lord on March 29, 2015 at the age of 97.
Surviving are her children, Beverly (William) Haas, Wayne (Kathy), Arlene (Walter) Switalski, Carol (Daryl) Regenold, Joyce (James) Burroughs, proud grandmother of 14, great grandmother of 29, and great-great grandmother of 5, also survived by her sister in law, June (Ed) Lauffer, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Clarence(Shorty), infant son Robert, her parents Otto and Marie Schilling, her sister Lucille Rahm and her mother and father in law, Elizabeth and Louis Lauffer.
After retiring from farming in Tinley Park, Alma was very active in St. John's UCC Mokena, including teaching Sunday School, the director of Christian Education, Women's Fellowship, KWIL, and chairman of the annual turkey dinner. She started to work at Lincoln Way Central High School in 1963. She loved to cook and bake, and became head cook in the Lincoln Way kitchen.
Alma became a volunteer at Silver Cross Hospital in 1986. She loved volunteering and made many friends during the 14,000 hours she volunteered there. She had to retire from volunteering in 2012 due to declining health issues. She loved and appreciated her family. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be dearly missed by many.
