Alma Gertrude Ingemansen, 92, of Mokena, IL, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2021 after a long, full life filled with love.
Alma was born on July 24, 1929 to Robert and Gertie (Zuefle) Bell, in St. Thomas, Elgin County, Ontario, Canada. After finishing school, she lived with her Aunt Nell to help her care for her Grandfather Zuefle. In 1951, she joined her sister Margaret and brother Donald in Toronto, where she worked as an operator for the Bell Telephone.
In 1955 Alma was introduced to Henning Robert Ingemansen by her brother Don, and they wed on June 28, 1958. After a long honeymoon in Denmark visiting her new husband’s family, she and Henning started their family. They have four children, Elizabeth Anne, Martin Robert, Karen Margaret, and Mary Frances.
Alma was a full-time wife and mother, with four children born within 5 years of each other keeping her very busy. She took excellent care of her family, including sewing beautiful clothing for all of the children. Later, she sewed matching square dance outfits for herself and her husband, prom and wedding dresses. Alma also worked professionally sewing clothing and drapes. For fun, she planned and created beautiful quilts. Many were raffled to support local organizations, such as the Lincoln-way Band. In addition, she planned a quilt that was sewn by ladies from St. John’s United Church of Christ as a memorial to the church’s 150th year. In recent years Alma quilted baby quilts that were donated to St. Johns.
In addition, Alma was an active member of St. Johns United Church of Christ for over 50 years, serving in a variety of ways, including Women's Circle.
Alma was predeceased by her husband, Henning, and her 7 siblings, Jack (Eileen), Margaret (John), Bill (Cathy), Donald, Ronald (Dorothy), Ellen, and Bob (Kenlynn) and her grandson Robert. She is survived by her children, Anne (Michael), Martin (Deborah), Karen and Mary
(Phillip), 7 grandchildren (Katie, Danny, Eric, Kelsey, Zachary, Blake, Jared) and one great-grandchild (Finn).
