Robert M. Sommer

Robert M. Sommer age 71 of Holly Springs NC. Robert was born December 21, 1942 in Chicago, IL to the late Edgar Nathan Sommer and Dorothy Lee Friedman Sommer. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and a graduate of the University of Maryland. Robert was employed with IBM retiring with over 30 years of service. He was also employed with the NC Department of Transportation finally retiring in 2009. Robert was preceded in death by his son, Michael Gerard Sommer; and daughter Wilhelmina Baker. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Jean Boll Sommer; daughters, Eileen Sommer of Holly Springs; Andrea George and her husband, Rick of Holly Springs; sisters, Beverly Sommer and Lynn Rhinehart and her husband, John; 14 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Monday, July 28, 2014 at St. John's Cemetery in Mokena, IL. The family will receive friends 5-8 PM Sunday July 27, 2014 at the Vandenberg Funeral Home 19604 S. Wolf Road Mokena, IL. 60448. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
