Richard Lawrence Furlong, 81, late of Crest Hill formerly of Tinley Park, IL. Passed peacefully on February 22, 2024. Born and raised in Chicago, lived in Tinley Park most of his life before moving to Crest Hill. Retired in 2003 from CNA Insurance after many dedicated years. Rich was a proud graduate of Leo High School class of 1959, and the University of Chicago. He was very involved with the Leo High School Alumni Association where he was President from 2006 - 2010, and was awarded Man of the Year 2004, Hall of Fame 2009, Doc Driscoll Award 2013 and Community Service Award 2020.Throughout his life Rich was very active in many organizations such as, Honor Flight, he refereed for IHSA football and basketball for over 35 years, was very active at Saint George School, Tinley Park where he was the Athletic Director and coached basketball and was commissioner and coached for Tinley Park Boys Baseball (Bulldogs). An avid Chicago Cubs fan and loyal Notre Dame fan and season ticket holder.
Preceded in death by his wife, Catherine (Nee Poszywak) Furlong (2004); his second wife, Nanette (Nee Kirby) Furlong (2012); parents, Richard and Bernice (Nee Andruszewski) Furlong; and his grandson, Justin Wofford (Green).
Survived by his loving and devoted children, Kelly (Daniel) Foresman, Brian (Gina) Furlong, and Douglas (Dina) Furlong; cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey (Annina) Foresman, Nicole (Johnathan) Steele, Stephanie (Angelo) Garcia, Samantha Furlong, Shannon Furlong, Jacquelyn Furlong, and Peyton Furlong; two brothers, James (Patricia) Furlong and Charles Furlong a nephew, Patrick (Laura) Furlong; his dear friend, Chris Lepczynski; his lifelong friends, Larry (Kathy) Bahnaman, and Jack (Maryann) McNicholas; and Many cousins.
