Susan E. Wagner, age 74, of Orland Park passed away on February 6, 2024. She was born on July 13, 1949, to parents Dorothy and George and raised in Mokena, IL.
Susan, called "Sue" by her friends and family, graduated from Lincoln-Way Central High School where she made lifelong friends. She went on to marry and become a wonderful mother to her two children, Edward Wagner, Jr. and Elizabeth (Zach) McDivitt, with her husband Edward Wagner, Sr.
In her thirties, Sue obtained a degree as a registered nurse. When Sue was in her late forties, she began a lifelong fight with cancer, receiving a diagnosis of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. After beating cancer, she went into remission for nearly twenty years. In her sixties, she went back to school, attending Olivet Nazarene University to receive her Bachelor's degree in nursing. She compassionately used this degree to help others as a nurse at various Chicagoland hospitals. In her later years, she battled cancer no less than four times, including another variation of non-Hodgkin's cancer, and cancer in her colon, liver, and lungs. Even through chemotherapy and countless hospital visits, she remained laughing, retaining a positive outlook on life, and being an amazing mother and grandmother. She was loved by so many, had friends of all ages, and knew how to enjoy life. Sue truly lived a life of resilience and compassion.
Sue is survived by her two children, Edward Wagner, Jr. and Elizabeth (Zach) McDivitt, and her grandchildren: Grace Van Meter (24), Abby Van Meter (20), Oliver McDivitt (12), Sullivan McDivitt (6), and Emerson McDivitt (4), who lovingly called her "Glamma". Sue is predeceased by both her parents and the father of her children, Edward Wagner, Sr.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 11th, 2024, at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 19604 Wolf Rd, Mokena,IL 60448 from 11:00-4:00PM. Funeral Chapel Service will commence Monday, February 12th, 2024 at 11:00 AM. She will laid to rest at St. John's Cemetery in Mokena, IL.
